Wild Basin
This area was once known for its remoteness, but has gained
popularity in recent years, especially for backpackers. A
multitude of lakes, high peaks and camping areas attract
visitors.

Major Trails:
Bluebird Lake Trail:
- Bluebird Lake is a wonderful alpine lake surrounded by
high and remote peaks. This trail is a popular
backpacking trail, with lots of sites to see enroute to
the lake.
- From this trail you can climb the following mountains: Mount Copeland, Isolation Peak, Mahana Peak, Ogalalla Peak, Ouzel Peak.
- From this trail you can visit the following: Bluebird Lake, Calypso Cascades, Chickadee Pond, Cony Pass, Copeland Falls, Isolation Lake, Junco Lake, Lark Pond, Ouzel Falls, Ouzel Lake, Pipit Lake.
Finch/Pear Lake Trail:
Lion Lakes Trail:
- If you love lakes, this is the trail for you. The Lion
Lakes Trail leads into the heart of Wild Basin, pass
numerous waterfalls, and by high and scenic peaks.
- From this trail you can climb the following mountains: Mount Alice, Pilot Mountain.
- From this trail you can visit the following: Castle Lake, Fan Falls, Lion Lake #1, Lion Lake #2, Snowbank Lake, Thunder Falls, Trio Falls.
Lookout Mountain Trail (Meeker Park):
- This little used trail offers nice views into Wild Basin.
The trailhead lies outside of the park, in the town of
Meeker Park. An early branch in the trail leads to the
Sandbeach Lake Trail.
- From this trail you can climb the following mountains: Horsetooth Peak, Lookout Mountain.
- From this trail you can visit the following: Squally Pass.
Sandbeach Lake Trail:
St. Vrain Mountain Trail (Rock Creek Road):
- This trail starts near Allenspark and follows the
southern boundry of Rocky Mountain National Park for
several miles, after which it enters the Indian Peaks
Wilderness.
- From this trail you can climb the following mountains: Meadow Mountain, Saint Vrain Mountain.
Thunder Lake Trail:
- This trail forks off of the Lion Lakes trail, and leads
to Thunder Lake and points beyond.
- From this trail you can climb the following mountains: Eagles Beak, Tanima Peak.
- From this trail you can visit the following: Boulder-Grand Pass, Box Lake, The Cleaver, Eagle Lake, Falcon Lake, Frigid Lake, Lake Of Many Winds, Mertensia Falls, Moomaw Glacier, Thunder Lake, Twin Lakes.
