We paid the University of Colorado's Department of Urban Planning to study Custer County and project the population change and distribution..... The consulting professors from the University also started to take a look at the distribution of water in our County.

The results of the study were presented in a public meeting attended by 200 people on August 18th..... This is the meeting mentioned in the previous Web page. The full presentation is published as a 3.5 Megabyte Microsoft Powerpoint presentation..... Look here:

The alternative Growth Futures Study presents specific alternative development scenarios for Custer County, Colorado utilizing GIS(Geographic Information Systems). Using graphic displays, the growth modeling study explores historical growth trends and models future growth based on statistical analysis, and then presents methods for analyzing growth pressures and offers alternative visions for future growth.

You will need the Free GIS viewer called "Arc Explorer" to see the data..... The free viewer is here:

After you install the Arc Explorer viewer on your computer you will need to download the data which is in a 1.5 Mb zip file called "Custer_Study.zip"...... The data file is on our Webserver at:

You look at the graphical data using Arc Explorer by adding "Themes" to a background that is a digital topographic map of the area...... There are hundreds of themes that can be graphically displayed..... Some themes show different kinds of vegetation, some show the hydrology of the area, some show wildlife...... others show population distribution over time.
