
We paid a consulting firm to take a look at our Telecommunication infrastructure and recommend a course of action. The Village of Westcliffe, Colorado has a 655 Mb - OC-12 fiber optic connection from the Internet backbone to the Village digital telecom switch courtesy of Qwest Communications.

In addition to the guided transmission mediums; Cellular One is upgrading the wireless service for our area...... We are using 3 Watt Cellular phones; These are the larger models called "Bag Phones" that have the strength to reach around mountains and canyons of the Sangre de Cristo range.
RCA Direct TV has deployed two way Broadband Satellite service.....These systems can access recreational programming (Gilligan's Island, etc) or the Internet at 400 Kbs. We are moving toward testing these new systems as alternatives to the existing guided and cellular service.
