As a good way to get started in mountaineering, or as a way to obtain training and climb Mount Blanca, this Mountaineering Course offers you three great days, each day being a unique and different experience.
It will give you a good taste and a good foundation in all aspects of mountaineering, plus a grand climb up one of America's classic mountains - 14, 364 foot Mount Blanca in the Sangre de Cristo range of Colorado.
ITINERARY:
DAY 1: Introduction to rock climbing; knots, protection, belaying, rappeling, top-roping and climbing technique.
DAY 2: Introduction to snow climbing: ice axe, crampon, self-arrest and snow travel techniques. A unique blend of first learning, and then using, the basic alpine-expedition skills.
DAY 3: Put your newly learned and practiced skills to use - Climb Mount Blanca.

The Diamond is the ultimate big wall climb in Colorado and ranks along side of El Capitan and Half Dome in Yosemite. It indeed lives up to its reputation as an all-time classic climbing achievment. The Diamond is not for everyone. In fact, few climbers reach the Diamond level of ability; however, if hard free climbing and pushing yourself to ultimate challenges is the way you like to climb, the Diamond could be your ticket to the climb of your lifetime.

We do not have the permits from the National Park Service to "Guide" clients for a fee in Rocky Mountain National Park at this time.... contact SMS for details. It might take us a while to make some new Friends before we are allowed to "Guide" clients for a fee in RMNP.... We have climbed in RMNP for 25 years and can certainly answer your questions about this magnificent area if you are interested in going on your own without a professional "Guide".
For the already competent free climber, we offer "Aid Climbing" as a stepping stone from the local crags to the big walls.
Many big wall routes have at least some artificial climbing. A variety of specialized gear and technique is covered, including jumaring, cleaning and A1 to A3 skills. This course takes place on Heaven's Ladder Spire in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range of Colorado.
