There were many preparations that I had to do that were new to me. I wanted to sleep hanging from the side of the cliff. I would have to haul my food, water, sleeping bag and warm clothes with me. I would need to bring everything with me that would allow me to live in a vertical world.

One idea that I had, was to accustom myself to sleeping on a portable ledge that hangs from the cliff before having to do it for real on the Touchstone Wall. Being conservative, I started out by sleeping about four feet from the ground, hanging from man made objects like the telephone in the image above. After I felt good about sleeping four feet off the ground, I took the portaledge to some cliffs and slept twenty feet off the ground…

By the time I was actually sleeping hundreds of feet from the ground on the Touchstone Wall, I was really confident that I could do it.
